Cream Teas in The Cotswolds 12th to 19th July 2021
Monday 12th July
After arriving at our accommodation, The Barn in the beautiful village of Barnsley, we settled into our rooms. We got to know the staff and our fellow holiday makers, and then we enjoyed pizza for dinner and had a nice relaxing evening.
Tuesday 13th July
This morning, Sue and Jenni enjoyed some arts & crafts at the barn. After lunch, we went to Bibury. We enjoyed a lovely walk by the river and went past the gorgeous row of cottages on Arlington Row. On the walk back to Bibury Trout Farm, Sue had a great time feeding the trout some snacks! We then enjoyed a cream tea in the cafe and did a little shopping at the gift shop. In the evening, we joined the guys to go bowling at Tenpin, Swindon. It was a great night, we had burgers and pizza to eat!
Wednesday 14th July
Today, the ladies went on a tour of the Cotswolds. Visiting the delightful town of Burford, we enjoyed looking in the various gift shops and having our lunch in the garden of the Priory Cafe. We also visited the St John Baptist Church. Driving through the rolling hills and picturesque countryside, we reached Stow-on-the-Wold. We enjoyed more shopping, before stopping for some coffee and cake in the English Tea Garden. Returning back to the barn for dinner, we then enjoyed a game of bingo to finish our evening.
Thursday 15th July
Today we visited the Swindon and Cricklade railway. We had an enjoyable lunch in an old train carriage, whilst the gents had a go at driving the diesel train. Afterwards, we explored the museum and gift shop, and had a nice chat with its friendly volunteers. Finally, we took a trip to Lechlade-on-Thames, which overlooks the canal, swans and boats. We enjoyed a lovely drink in the sunshine whilst soaking in the lovely scenery.
Friday 16th July
We went to Bourton-on-the-Water today, enjoying a lovely coffee and cake in the Chestnut Cafe. We visited the Model Village which was an amazing replica of the famous village! For lunch we treated ourselves to a picnic in the sunshine, with lots of families soaking up the sun whilst sitting by the river. After a little shopping, we returned to our spot by the river to have a little ice cream! Later on in the evening, we joined the gents on their Planes and Trains holiday and had a fantastic evening at the Catherine Wheel Pub in Bibury.
Saturday 17th July
We headed off to the Gloucester Docks today and loved learning about how the area had been transformed. After shopping for some great bargains in the Quay shopping centre, we enjoyed our picnic and a coffee in the square. In the evening after dinner, we all had a sing along to our favourite music, what a great night!
Sunday 18th July
Today, we had our brunch at the barn and had a relaxing morning, as we all decided we were tired from our busy week and needed a break from the sun! After some rest, we went to the Cotswold Water Park and enjoyed ice creams/cakes, along with some drinks by the lake. A DJ was playing some music, it was a great atmosphere! In the evening, we enjoyed our last night together with a BBQ at the barn.
Monday 19th July
After breakfast today, we all said goodbye and travelled home. What a lovely trip to the Cotswolds!
