Robin Hood 23rd to 26th May 2022
Monday 23rd May
Everyone met at Harebushes Services in Cirencester at 12:30 ready for our Robin Hood Adventure.
After a good drive we arrived at Pines Forest Park and marvelled at the spectacular Sherwood Forest. Dinner was takeaway pizza brought to our cabin by one of the friendly staff, followed by an early night.
Tuesday 24th May
Full English breakfast? Yes please!
A trip to Nottingham Castle today. What a fascinating place! We looked around the galleries, sampled the cake in the café and did some virtual archery and staff practice. What a lovely picnic in the grounds! The best part though according to Chris was the underground caves with the very knowledgeable guide telling us all the history of how they were built and what they were used for. To relax after our busy day, we spent some time in the hot tub. This evening we had dinner in the restaurant and looked around the gift shop.
Wednesday 25th May
This morning we visited the village of Edwinstow and the church where Robin Hood and Maid Marion reportedly got married. We had our photos taken by their statue in the village centre. We had lunch back at the cabin and then it was time to start our afternoon activity…learning survival skills in the forest! We learned so much! How to get water from a Silver Birch Tree, what is safe to eat in the forest and how to make fire. Duncan thought the best bit was building shelter from wood, Chris thought it was roasting marshmallows over the open fire and Robert thought it was seeing the wild deer. More hot tub fun with a chilled drink. The vote for dinner was spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread followed by apple strudel and custard…yum!
Thursday 26th May
Today we went to the Sherwood Miniature Railway and had a relaxing ride through the lush green countryside. We had a chilled last afternoon packing and hot tubbing. To mark our last evening, we had a delicious meal out at the Dog and Duck pub. Then it was an early night ready for home tomorrow.
