The Lake District 19th to 26th July 2021
Monday 19th July
It was a lovely sunny day today, we all met up and took the long drive up to the lake district. After checking in and familiarising ourselves with our rooms, we had a delicious meal at our accommodation “crofters”.
Tuesday 20th July
Another beautiful sunny day! Today we went to Lakeland Motor Museum where we saw classic cars and motorbikes, there were also some caravans and bluebirds to admire. After a filling lunch at the Cafe Ambio, we drove to Lake Windermere to admire the views and take some great photographs. The day was finished off with a meal out and drinks in the bar whilst we chatted and got to know each other.
Wednesday 21st July
Today’s adventure was to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. We chugged along at a leisurely pace in the hot sunshine, heading towards Lakeside where we ate lunch. Then, we bought some souvenirs before taking the train back for an ice cream. We took the scenic route back to our accommodation via the coastline. We had loads of fun on the beach trying to see the sea whilst the tide was out. Dinner was a lovely meal at the Hungry Horse, yum!
Thursday 22nd July
We couldn’t have asked for better weather today as we cruised along Lake Windermere on our boat trip. We all enjoyed watching the other boats, paddle boarders and water skiers. After lunch, we checked out Fell Foot Park, what an amazing place! Trees, greenery and of course a lake to paddle in. Robin said that this was his favourite day.
Friday 23rd July
Wow, there was so much to see at Holker Hall and Gardens! We toured the house, having a nose around the drawing rooms, dining room and bedrooms. We wandered in wonder at the picturesque gardens and grounds before spending some of our holiday money in the gift shop. Of course, we ate and drank at the cafe as well, with Robin sampling the sumptuous cream tea.
Saturday 24th July
Animals were our focus today as we headed off to the Safari Zoo, which Robert thought was really well laid out. In particular, we loved seeing the jaguars and tigers, wow they were huge! We finished the day with a well-deserved pizza and made sure to relax in the evening, we earned it!
Sunday 25th July
After a leisurely start to the morning, we headed to the Dock Museum, which was built in a historic nineteenth century dock. There were loads of things to see here and so much history to immerse ourselves in, we all learned so much! At the cafe we were provided with a lovely picnic. The day was so beautiful, we decided to take it to the beach and ate watching the tide go out. We ended the day at our hotel with a fantastic roast dinner.
Monday 26th July
Today it was time to say goodbye to our new friends. We gathered all of our things and began our journey home, what a fantastic trip to the Lake District!
