Walk on wild side 4th – 11th September

Friday 4th September

Everyone arrived on time and had a lovely cup of tea and got to know one another. We then got settled into our rooms and began to unpack. In the evening we enjoyed a ‘chippy tea’ with plenty of mushy peas. Then we watched a film together to finish the evening off.

Saturday 5th September

We woke and had a good breakfast and then set off to ‘All things Wild’. It was great being together with the holiday group and seeing and describing all the animals such as fox, beavers, reindeer, camel, owls and many more. We went for a ride on a dinosaur train which Karen enjoyed because she said it was nice to sit down for 10 minutes. There had been lots to see and enjoy and it had been a great day.

Sunday 6th September

What a thrill to see all the animals up close! We started our journey looking at a herd of rhino followed by a cow with very large horns. Some of the animals came quite close to the cars at The  West Midland Safari Park. We saw animals such as camel, giraffe and reindeer. Luckily, the lions, tigers and elephants did not come very close. We then saw a cheetah and some wild dogs although they were a bit shy. Overall, it had been a smashing trip out.

Monday 7th September

We spent a few delightful hours going around The Cotswold farm Park today. We were lucky to get to touch and pet some of the animals in the ‘Barn’ section of the park. There were baby chicks, calves, foals, donkeys, and tiny piglets. We then walked around the other enclosures and fed the animals we could which was very exciting. The goats were jumping over each other to get to the food. There was also a very nice woodland walk. There was a cow called ‘Strawberry’ who was a star and the geese and piglets were fun to watch.

Tuesday 8th September

Today we visited Crocodile World, this is a small zoo dedicated to crocodiles. It was interesting to see the different types of crocodile, some small and some big! There were also lizards, dragons and turtles. We really loved the giant tortoise, one of them was called ‘Doug’ and he was 75 years old and very big. The otters were amusing to watch. In the evening we went bowling and we ate out there with burgers and chips. After our meal we played a bowling competing against one another, it was great fun.

Wednesday 9th September

Today was quite a full day. We arrived at the ‘Alpaca Walk’ where we were introduced to the young alpacas who were going to be going along with us on the walk. After instructions how to handle them we set off for a short walk through the fields. Along the way we saw other alpacas, there was a field with males and one with females and their babies. We loved it! Our next adventure was to travel to Birdland in Bourton on the water. This was packed with many varieties of birds such as owls, love birds, flamingos, penguins, pelicans, emu and parrots. We also enjoyed a cream tea at Bibury which was lovely, very tasty. We had a look around the gift shop at the Trout Farm, in Bibury and there were some nice gifts to buy. We also had a little walk around the very picturesque village famous for its Cotswold stone cottages at Arlington Row.

Thursday 10th September

Today was the best day yet! Lovely to see the swans and ducks at The Cotswold Water Park. Sandra said the ice creams were beautiful and Louise said it was very nice being all together as a group for the last day. The ducks made lots of noise and the swans were flapping about. The waterpark has an inland beach and is set in beautiful countryside. Later there was a smashing evening meal and some had the best experience of their life, a great time had been had by all on the holiday. Louise, Sandra and Karen all said, “We all had a wonderful adventure together.”
