Sunday 29th May

We travelled to our holiday destination, everyone was very excited to be on holiday!

Monday 30th May

Today we visited Thirsk to see the area of the TV program “All Creatures Great and Small “. We went to the James Herriot museum with memorabilia and interactive games. After a large lunch in an Italian restaurant we stopped at the shop to buy some souvenirs for friends and family back home. On the way back to the hotel we had a sing along to some football tunes and Queen. After a much needed rest we had a delicious dinner in the hotel with chocolate cake for pudding for those who wanted it.

Tuesday 31st May

We visited the delicious York Chocolate Factory today. We had a full chocolate experience, with lots of chocolates to taste including a KitKat and a rather bitter drink called chocolatier. We also made chocolate lolly pops Yum! We then went to the pub and had a light lunch and refreshing drinks before heading back to the bus singing Elvis songs all the way back to the hotel. A short rest was had by all before heading out to dinner at the Harvester. Who had the biggest burger? Chris did but Sam, Nigel and Dalar all had huge 1983 mixed grill combos. Nigel and Dalar finished but Sam struggled a little.

Wednesday 1st June

It was a glorious day today and off we went to the small village of Holmfirth. Before embarking on the Last of the Summer Wine Magic Tour on the Holmfirth bus we stopped at SIDS café for a drink and yummy cake. Compo, our driver, took us up and down the dales and around the windy, narrow roads. He was very informative telling tales about the characters and their antics. Afterwards, we took a wander and ended up in a typical Yorkshire pub, The Elephant and Castle where we sampled some Yorkshire fare for lunch. Russell and Nigel…brothers in arms bought matching purple Joker T shirts and looked very cool at dinner in the hotel.

Thursday 2nd June

We were due to visit the village of Goathland today but due to the heavy bank holiday traffic we changed our plans and decided to go clothes shopping at the White Rose Shopping Centre, everyone got their fix of retail therapy and had the chance to buy something. We then headed to Middleton Park to eat our picnic lunch by the pond before returning back to the hotel for a well earned rest. Later, we headed out to Tenpin for a spot of bowling and supper dressed in our new clothes. Well done Nigel for winning! (Later he told us he’s a member of a bowling team!) We ended the evening with a few drinks at the bar back at the Village Hotel.

Friday 3rd June

After a lovely cooked breakfast we headed out to Emmerdale at a secret location to see where the outside scenes are filmed. We took lots of photos of well known land marks including the Emmerdale street sign, The Woolpack and David’s shop during our ‘Emmerdale Tour’. What a beautiful sunny day to be told stories of the cast and storylines past and present. We enjoyed lunch at the New Inn opposite Moira’s Farm with a BBQ in the sun. In the evening we were entertained by a lovely singer at our hotel. Chris said he was sad to be going home on Sunday.

Saturday 4th June

Today we were up and out early on this beautiful sunny day after breakfast for our trip to the ‘Coronation Street Tour’. We arrived on time to be greeted by Jack Duckworth who led us down the cobbles of Coronation Street. Showing us the famous sights including Dev Alahan’s, The Cabin and Underworld’s factory, leading to the most famous pub in the world, The Rovers Return. We then moved onto Victoria Street and the famous Roy’s Rolls. WE got to see so many things. We then headed off to the Matchstick Man for lunch and made our way back to the hotel to pack for going home tomorrow. “We don’t want to go home!” cried Chris. Later that evening, after dinner, some of us took part in a treasure hunt around the hotel before indulging in chocolate or cheese cake. Time to go off to bed for our early start tomorrow.

Sunday 5th June

Time to wake up and head off home. We were all sad our holiday had finished and a good time had been had by all!
