Christmas Week 1,  14th to 21st December 2020

Monday 14th December

Everyone arrived at our holiday home in the Cotswolds. We settled in and said hello and got to know one another. We all enjoyed a mince pie with a warm drink. Once we had unpacked, we had a lovely three course meal.

Tuesday 15th December

Today was to be ‘our’ Christmas Eve on the holiday. After breakfast we had some time to relax and choose from today’s menu. We picked out the names for our ‘secret Santa’. After lunch, we visited the nearby town of Cirencester. There was a chance to do some shopping and buy the gifts for our ‘secret Santa’ presents. The market town of Cirencester has lots of little shops and cafes and a beautiful church in the centre of town. There was an indoor Christmas market today and we had a look around the stalls. On returning home, we wrapped our presents and put them under the Christmas tree. We then enjoyed a three course Christmas eve meal. Susan, Pippa, Jude and Louise made some Christmas cakes. Pippa said, “I enjoyed going shopping today.” Sarah said, “I enjoyed making the Christmas cards.”

Wednesday 16th December

Santa came to visit in the night and left us our gifts on the door! In the morning, we went to the local church for a special service. The vicar told us a story about crackers and why they symbolise Christmas. We came back to our holiday home and sat around the Christmas tree while we opened our ‘secret Santa’ presents. We all received some beautiful gifts. At lunch time, we enjoyed a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and we pulled our Christmas crackers. Afterwards there was a chance to enjoy a game of Christmas bingo. At night we drove to the ‘Silverstone Racetrack’. We were able to drive around the circuit for the ‘Lapland light and laser spectacular’. We all loved it! It was followed by a drive-in movie which was ‘The Snowman’. Michelle said,” I loved everything today!”

Thursday 17th December

This morning we enjoyed arts and crafts, we made tea light holders to take home. We drove to visit The Cotswold Reindeer Herd. We were able to feed them with special moss from Norway. After dinner, we had a disco at our holiday home and chose our favourite music and had a sing along. Louise said,” It was the first time I have seen a reindeer!” and,” This is better than any hotel.” Pippa had enjoyed listening to the music and watching everyone dance.

Friday 18th December

Today we made Christmas cookies, using star shaped cutters. Jade put them in the oven for us. In the afternoon, we decorated them with icing and baubles. Jade and Louise went for a nice walk around the village. Pippa played a board game with Peter called Rummikub. In the evening, we went to The Barn Theatre in Cirencester to watch ‘Peter Pan’.

Saturday 19th December

We had fun melting chocolate and dipping fruit into it. Then we put the fruit in the fridge to set. We had our New Year’s Eve lunch, as we were treating today as New Years eve. In the afternoon, we went to the drive-in fireworks being held at Abingdon Airfield. Sarah said,” It was good!” We came home and had a little party; we drank champagne and sang songs. We stayed up late to ‘see in’ the New Year!

Sunday 20th December

Today we were creative and did some painting. Sarah made a Christmas ‘chef’s’ hat for Geraint to wear. After lunch we went to the church for a Christmas service, where we met up with Wendy, it was nice to see her. Then we packed our bags and relaxed for the evening.

Monday 21st December

We were sad the holiday had come to an end. Sarah said,” The holiday was good, I enjoyed the food, compliments to the chef!” Pippa said, “I liked my holiday, I enjoyed going shopping. My favourite part was the outdoor cinema!”
