Christmas Week 3,  28th December 2020  to 4th January 2021

Monday 28th December

It was the first day of our holiday, everyone had arrived and we had mince pies with a choice of hot drink. Then we unpacked and settled into our new home for the holiday. For our evening meal at 6pm we had quiche, meat, salad and potato, followed by crème brulee.  We had used a kitchen blow torch, while being supervised, to melt the sugar on the top of the pots and make it turn hard for the brulee recipe. After our meal we relaxed watching TV in our rooms.

Tuesday 29th December

We are treating today on the holiday as our Christmas Eve. After breakfast, we drove to the nearby town of Cirencester. We had a stroll around the pretty town and did some shopping. When we got back, we had a lovely meal made by Geraint of gammon followed by cheesecake, yummy! In the afternoon we had a demonstration of how to ice and decorate a chocolate log. Then we drove to Silverstone Racetrack to experience the ‘Lapland driving light and laser Christmas attraction’. We drove around the track while looking at the fantastic lights and lasers, they were brilliant! It had been quite a full day of activities and after our picnic meal we drove back home.

Wednesday 30th December

Today is our Christmas day on the holiday! After breakfast we opened our presents, Santa had left them for us in the night. We also opened our ‘secret Santa’ presents. We then did some crafting and decorated tea light holders to take home. Afterwards, we played a quiz. Geraint cooked us a delicious Christmas meal and made a Christmas pudding for our dessert. We all had a Christmas cracker to pull before the meal. After our meal we played bingo for chocolate prizes followed by a game that involved the use of mime, it was great fun. Then we relaxed watching TV.

Thursday 31st December

This was to be our ‘New Year’s Eve’ day on the holiday. After breakfast we did some crafting using paint. We poured different coloured paint onto a board and moved and tilted it until we had an abstract art picture we were happy with. We broke for lunch and afterwards our next activity involved fruit. We were shown how to dip various fruits into melted chocolate. The completed fruit was left to set, to be used as our dessert this evening. We then had the chance to relax as we wanted to stay up late and ‘see in’ the New Year. We all got ready and dressed up in our smart party outfits for our evening, treating it as New Year’s Eve. We enjoyed pre-dinner ‘Mocktails’. Geraint cooked us a beautiful three course meal and the main course was haggis (and included our dipped chocolate fruit). We got into the New Year mood by listening to bagpipe music and said the poem by Robbie Burns which is an ‘ode to the haggis’. Afterwards we had a quiz and we ‘saw’ 2021 in with a non-alcoholic Bucks Fizz!

Friday 1st January

Today is our New Years Day. We had been up late yesterday so; we had a lie-in today. Once we all woke up, we had a ‘brunch’ of a cooked breakfast and lunch. We played some games of bingo. In the afternoon, we did an activity which involved painting wooden boxes and we listened to our favourite music while we did this. After our dinner, we had a movie night watching the film ‘Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang’. It is the film starring Emma Thompson as Nanny McPhee. We thoroughly enjoyed the film and ate popcorn as we watched.

Saturday 2nd January

We went for a nice drive out today to the village of Bibury. We visited the church at Bibury and Natasha lit a candle. We then went back home for our lunch. In the afternoon we had a baking activity, where we all made mince pies. Wendy then showed us how to spin sugar to make a decorative ‘nest’ for our pudding. After our evening meal we settled in for a movie night. We watched the film ‘Black Beauty’ while eating pop corn and drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Sunday 3rd January

Today after breakfast we had a restful morning. We ate lunch and then had an activity making chocolate shortbread houses. Later, in the evening we had another movie night. This evening we watched little Britain and enjoyed eating pop corn and drinking hot chocolate and marshmallows. We also packed our things ready for going home tomorrow.

Monday 4th January

It was now time to finish our holiday and travel home. We were sad to go as we had all had such fun on the holiday.
