Scarborough 26th June to 3rd July 2022

Sunday 26th June

Our drive to Scarborough was broken up by lunch at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. We arrived at our hotel in good time for our first dinner together. Some stayed in for bingo while the rest took a short walk; then we all went to bed excited for our adventures the following day!

Monday 27th June

A cooked breakfast gave us fuel to explore Scarborough – we started in the shops then took a tram to the beach. We enjoyed some hot chocolate looking out across the water and some of us created artwork on the beach. We went to the Watermark Café for lunch with great food and a view to match. Rain meant we returned to the hotel for games, but we manged a sunny walk later in Peasholm Park, drinks at the Grand Hotel then dinner, bingo, and live music.

Tuesday 28th June

Today we headed for the Sealife Centre and the whole group enjoyed the otters, the jellyfish and penguin feeding time. We got a close-up view of the seals, which was wonderful. After a packed lunch we had ice-creams then played crazy golf: Richard and Marie-Claire were the winners. After dinner it was more live music and some dancing.

Wednesday 29th June

Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park was our destination today. The sensory garden was delightful, and we enjoyed meeting the animals. We had a packed lunch there then went to visit the castle, then visited a lovely pub before returning to the hotel for dinner, live music, and bingo.

Thursday 30th June

We took ourselves off to Whitby today. We started with a great boat trip around the harbour then explored the shops before lunch at Quayside where we were made up with our huge portions of fish and chips! Afterwards, we walked along the pier where we had some fun in the arcade then some of the group visited a museum while the others stopped for a cup of tea. After dinner we watched a singer perform at the hotel and enjoyed a bit more bingo.

Friday 1st July

Of course, we had to visit Scarborough Fair Collection…. Some of the group tried out the rides and everyone loved looking at the collection of organs and vehicles, including steam engines and classic cars. We had our packed lunch outdoors and, in the afternoon, used old pennies in the arcade games. Our next stop was the Rotunda Museum, dating from 1829. We took some time to relax back at the hotel then enjoyed our three-course meal followed by some great live music.

Saturday 2nd July

It was a bit drizzly for our trip to the Scarborough North Bay Railway, but we had a super time. Lunch today was at the Water Mark café where we ate looking out at the North Bay. We headed to the South Bay afterwards and some of us dared a ride on the enormous Ferris wheel – the views were amazing as the sun came out at last! The afternoon was spent in arcades, gift shops and on the beach. We enjoyed a last night of dancing after dinner.

Sunday 3rd July

We had a leisurely last breakfast together before heading home, fitting in a lunch stop on the way. We were all sad that our holiday was coming to an end, but we agreed we’d had a fabulous trip and really enjoyed our visit to Scarborough!
