Monday 13th July

We arrived at the Greyhound Barn in the heart of the Cotswolds. Everyone has their own room, which is nice. We had an easy relaxing evening after the long journey to get there.

Tuesday 14th July

Today we went to The Cotswold Wildlife Park. Some of the highlights were the lions along with the rhinos. There were so many different animals and birds to see and for those who enjoy penguins the park has a lovely pool and enclosure for them. It was also fun to watch the meerkats. There was also a gift shop at the park for a bit of retail therapy. Christopher joined us this afternoon.

Wednesday 15th July

Today we travelled to the nearby town of Swindon to take a short train journey to the city of Bath. The trains were very quiet and we were able to have a carriage to ourselves. Once there we enjoyed looking around the shops at Bath. The city is known for the famous Roman built baths which give the city its name. The city is also known for the Georgian architecture and the Royal Crescent has been used as a backdrop for many films and TV shows. We enjoyed exploring the beautiful town of Bath and took some photos in front of the impressive Bath Abbey which is close to the Roman Baths. On the food front Bath has a bun named after it, the bath bun, but we didn’t try that and instead opted for a ‘Macdonald’ Lunch.

Thursday 16th July

We went on a boat trip along the river Thames today. It was a small cabin cruiser and it was just for us. It was a lovely journey taking in the countryside and observing the locks on the water. We stopped off at a riverside pub for a lunch in the garden. It was a lovely day with the sun shining all the way!

Friday 17th July

We had decided to take a trip to the nearby historic town of Cirencester set within the Cotswolds. This is a picturesque market town with many little shops and cafes. The buildings date from many different periods. The church of St John the Baptist is a very impressive building within the centre of the town. We enjoyed looking around and doing some shopping for gifts and souvenirs. We ate our lunch there, in a quiet courtyard. The town itself was a little quiet today.

Saturday 18th July

Today we drove to Weston super Mare to be by the seaside. It was nice to see the beach and walk along the sea front. There was a chance to enjoy a holiday ice cream by the beach. Then we had a look at The Pier although some of the attractions were closed.

Sunday 19th July

This morning some of us chose to go to church for a traditional Church of England service. The others stayed at home and relaxed. Then we went to lunch at The Tavern Inn, in the village of Kemble. We all enjoyed a Sunday roast meal of either chicken, beef or gammon. Later we had Sunday tea with scones and cake.

Monday 20th July

It was time to complete our packing and make our way home. It had been a holiday full of new memories.
