Torquay 27th July to 3rd August 2020

Monday 27th July

We all made our way to our holiday hotel in Torquay. Once there Geraint and Heather helped us to settle in our own rooms. Later we had our evening meal followed by a relaxing evening in the bar area. We all got chatting and got to know one another.

Tuesday 28th July

Today we went on a visit to The Dartmouth Steam Railway. We saw a wonderful black steam train at the station called “Lydham Manor”. We took a trip on a train to the town of Dartmouth.  This is a very picturesque town on the estuary of the river Dart. We got to walk around the harbour and enjoyed watching all the various sail boats and activity going on. In the evening we joined in with a quiz and then played bingo.

Wednesday 29th July

We took a walk around Torre Abbey in Torquay, it is a museum of history and art in a historic building. There are award winning gardens to stroll through. We saw the tithe barn within the garden and one of the gardens leads on to the sea front. We then had a shopping trip in Torquay and lunch in a very nice café. We then took a walk along to the marina and back along the sea front, it was a beautiful day with sunshine and blue skies. We enjoyed eating our ice creams, a must have on holiday! Later in the evening we played bingo together.

Thursday 30th July

Today we took a trip to Paignton Zoo on a lovely summer day, we have been very lucky with the weather on our holiday. We such animals such as giraffe, hogs, zebra and monkeys. We also saw some rather large emu. We had an interesting time looking around The Bug House. The sea gulls were hoping that they may get some food from our lunch but they were a little out of luck, apart from a few crumbs. In the evening we played bingo and Stephen was only one point away from winning!

Friday 31st July

We took a walk down to the marina with a welcome drink for tea or coffee and then a look around the shops. Today was another dry day and by the afternoon it was glorious sunshine again. We walked back through the Abbey Gardens and picked up the minibus for a trip to Cockington Village. The village has thatched houses and many of the buildings date back to the 16th Century, it is very picturesque. We had a cream Tea while in Cockington and thought the surroundings were beautiful. We even saw an older style horse and carriage while we were there.
